Seamus O'Regan and Michael Levine will be our next speakers. Seamus O'Regan, co-host of CTV's Canada AM, will interview Michael Levine, producer, founding director of The Canadian Film Centre and foremost entertainment lawyer & agent. The evening will focus on how do we as Canadians finance the telling of our stories; Canadian cultural identity and the need for Canadian financing to share our narratives through Literature, Theatre and Film.
The Summer Discussion Series began with Toronto Police Chief Bill Blair and former Cabinet Minister and Chair of the Canadian Intelligence Review Commission Professor Ron Atkey on May 27th. Our speakers addressed the threats Toronto will face in the coming years, focusing specifically on security issues as the Toronto G20 approached. Chief Blair addressed the challenges the Toronto Police Service, as a municipal law enforcement agency, must address, while Professor Atkey talked about the role of CSIS and other federal agencies.
The Summer Series' second evening was on July 22nd with the Hon. David Peterson, former Premier of Ontario, and Roger Garland, Chair of the 2015 Toronto Pan/Parapan American games. The evening which focused on how Toronto won their bid for the games and how the city will prepare for 42 nations, 10,000 athletes and 100,000 spectators was a rousing success.
On February 22, former Liberal Deputy Premier of Ontario, Toronto City Centre MPP and current Toronto mayoralty candidate, George Smitherman, began the Mayoral Series, discussing his decision to leave provincial politics to pursue the office of the mayor.
On March 2nd, Conservative MPP and former leader of the opposition, John Tory addressed the Bistro crowd regarding his vision for Toronto. While he won’t be running as a candidate in the 2010, October 25 election, Mr Tory's dedication to the city in working with the Toronto Summit Alliance and hosting the prime spot on CFRB 1010, matched with his tenure as a noted business and political strategist, provided for a memorable evening.
Former National Director of the Liberal Party of Canada and CEO of the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Rocco Rossi hosted our 3rd evening on March 16th at the Bistro, discussing his decision to join the Mayoral race and the policy objectives he will pursue if elected.
