About John Tory

John Howard Tory (born May 28, 1954 in Toronto, Ontario) is a Canadian businessman, political activist, former leader of the Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario, former Member of Provincial Parliament and broadcaster. He is now the volunteer chair of the Toronto City Summit Alliance.

Mr. Tory was a candidate in the 2003 Toronto municipal election and lost to David Miller. Despite widespread speculation that he would run for mayor again in 2010, he announced in January that he would not be a candidate.

He is considered by some to be a Red Tory, and holds socially liberal views on a number of issues including same-sex marriage.
